Psychotherapy sessions are provided by Dr. Joan Samuels-Dennis, Ph.D., RN–Psychotherapist, Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO#: 99-1441-7).

This 60-minute session is conducted via secure video platform and serves as the initial intake for psychotherapy. It includes a comprehensive review of the client’s background, presenting concerns, and mental health history, as well as the development of a personalized Plan of Care. Delivered in accordance with CRPO’s standards for telepsychotherapy, the session follows the Becoming Method®—a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach supporting emotional healing and therapeutic goal setting. Informed consent and full clinical documentation are completed in compliance with regulatory requirements.

This 90-minute session is part of the Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP)—a five-session, evidence-based auditory intervention designed to calm the nervous system and support emotional and physiological regulation. Rooted in polyvagal theory, SSP uses specially filtered music to engage the vagus nerve and reduce symptoms related to anxiety, trauma, and sensory sensitivities. Sessions are offered online and include pre-assessment, guided listening, and integration support. All care is provided in alignment with CRPO’s standards for psychotherapeutic practice and telehealth delivery.

Her groundbreaking psychotherapeutic technique – the Becoming Method™ – has revolutionized how we understand and treat the physical, mental, and spiritual responses to trauma. As the Dean of the School of Psychotherapeutic Innovations at the Becoming Institute, the first Black-led, Black-focused, and Black-serving institute for psychotherapy education, she is shaping the future of the profession with a focus on diversity, equity, and excellence.

With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Joan’s expertise as a trauma recovery specialist has left an indelible mark on individuals, families, and communities worldwide.
